Marching Band

2008/2009 Students, please return your marching band uniforms – we will be using different uniforms this fall and the old ones are going to be sold. Please make sure your uniform is clean and return it as soon as possible.

Also, please hand in your marching flip folder and music binder as we need to prepare them for the 2009/2010 season.

New Marching Band students. We will have a one day “Rookie Band Camp” the Saturday before our 2009 Band Camp (at Chalcedon Presbyterian Church from 9:00 am to noon). This will help you understand the marching drill technique we use. There is no cost for this event.

All new students planning to participate in Marching Band need to be attending at least some of the summer lessons. So far the students have learned several of the pieces we play in the stands and have begun working on Pirates of the Caribbean. All the marching music must be memorized, so it is important to begin working on it as soon as possible. The class for new marching students meets on Tuesdays from 4:30 – 5:30.

Color Guard and Drum Line are currently meeting on Thursday afternoons to begin preparing for the marching season.

Band Camp is scheduled for July 29, 30, 31 and Aug. 1st. We will meet at Midway Park (on Post Road, Cumming) weather permitting. All students planning to march with us need to attend Band Camp. There is no fee for Band Camp, but the $30 band fee and registration fees must be paid by July 15th in order for the student to participate – students will need to bring a sack lunch and must wear tennis shoes and appropriate attire.

Additionally, there will be a $15 uniform rental fee (students who participated in the Joe Corbi fund raiser do not need to pay this fee).

Registration and some schedule changes!

We are receiving record numbers of new registrations! While this is great, we are running low on space. Several of the classes will have a size limit. 20 students is the limit for Swing Kids. 25 students is the limit for Elementary Chorus. Middle School Chorus will be limited to 40 students and K-2 Chorus will be limited to 20 students. Beginning  Band and Beginning Strings will also have a limit of 25 students.

Please note that we are planning to change the times of a couple of the classes. All Chorus classes will meet from 3:30 – 4:30 on Thursday. Concert/Marching Band, Beginning Band and Recorder Band will meet from 4:30 – 5:30 on Thursday. Swing Kids will probably move to Tuesday (at the same time as Swing Choir).

4:00 – 5:00 Swing Dance Class
5:00 – 6:00 Advanced String Ensemble (If you would prefer, we can move this to the 3:00 – 4:00 time – please let me know your preference)
